The LGBTQ+ Community
Dr. Wesley and all therapists working for Wesley Counseling are competent and celebrate our work with individuals or families of the LGBTQ+ community. Dr. Wesley grew up in a very conservative religious family and was told many lies about the gay community. Yet, Dr. Wesley\'s found that members of the LGBTQ+ community appeared more loving and accepting of others than members who expounded the hate toward them. Dr. Wesley was enlightened by friends and family over the years and has not only learned to accept gay or transgender individuals but enjoy their company daily. Dr. Wesley is an advocate and trusted counselor for those who identify as LGBTQ+.
Although a person\'s sexual or romantic orientation or gender identity may not be the reason they are seeking support, people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning or any other orientation or gender identity may find that the social stigma of living as a minority is a source of daily stress and anxiety.
When seeking therapy, whether for issues associated with one\'s sexual, romantic, or gender identity or for concerns related to mental health, finding a qualified mental health professional who has experience and familiarity with the challenges members of the LGBTQ community often face can be critical to successful therapy outcomes.
